PokeScience: How much is Mega Diancie worth

We all know that diamonds are a girls best friend and that they can cost a lot of money.
These precious gems are renown for their beauty and their rarity and are used primarily as jewelry for the ladies.
But how do you judge the value of a diamond?
And most importantly, how much does that pretty diamond on Mega Diancie's head cost?


Let me introduce you to the 4 C's of diamonds:
Carat (weight)
Clarity (how clear or cloudy, caused by imperfections)
Cut 
Colour

So how does Mega Diancie fare?

Carat
The weight of diamonds is measured in a unit known as carats where 1 carat is equal to 200mg.
From the corocoro information, we know that Mega Diancie's head diamond is more than 2000 carats.
Mega Diancie's weight is 61.3lbs or 27.8kg. Now if we assume that about 75% of Diancie is diamonds (leaving room for the body and organs and whatnot), we can estimate there to be 104250 carats of diamond on Mega Diancie's body.

Clarity
Corocoro has given us another gem of information, it says "The impurities upon it's body's surface have fallen away, and it sparkles so brilliantly when reflecting light that you cannot look directly at it".
This tells us that Mega Diancie can safely get the highest rating for clarity, an F or IF (flawless/internally flawless).

Cut
The diamond on Mega Diancie's head is a heart shaped diamond, however the rest of it's body diamonds do not have a significant cut. Diamonds are generally cut in such a way that makes the refract light within and seemingly emit light. Apart from the head diamond, the other diamonds do not really have much of a useful cut.


Colour
Diancie's diamond is obviously not the standard clear variety, in fact it is quite pink. Coloured diamonds are far more rare than white diamonds. These fancy diamonds only make up 0.01% of the diamonds in circulation and therefore this jacks up the price of these fancy gems. Mega Diancie is made up of vivid pink diamonds that are not too deep and not too pale in colour.


Verdict
Mega Diancie can be broken down into 2 valuable parts. The 2000 carat heart shaped diamond on it's head and the shapeless 102250 carats of flawless diamond that make up the rest of it's body.

In 2013; a flawless, pink oval cut diamond weighing 59.6 carats called the pink star (pic on right) sold for $83.02 million.
This diamond shares all of the same characteristics as Mega Diancie's diamonds; same quality and same colour.
I have found a rough conversion from oval cut to heart cut at
heart = oval x0.925.

Therefore, if it were a heart cut diamond of the same carat weight, it would be worth $77 million, giving it a value of $1.29 million per carat.
Therefore, on it's own, the head diamond of Mega Diancie is worth $2.583 billion.

The body gems, assuming a very low estimate of 70% of the heart cut diamonds worth per carat. would come out at $903000 per carat and $92.332 billion total worth.

Giving a grand total of $94.915 billion.

Definitely worth the masterball!

PokeScience: Wailord is lighter than air?

So everyone knows what the largest pokemon is, Wailord, the massive leviathan of a pokemon that towers over all other pokemon. At a massive 14.5m (47'07") it would be the 6th largest animal (on physical dimensions) if it existed on our planet (beaten by 5 species of whale).




So surely this must be the heaviest pokemon as well? I mean, humpback whales are a very similar size and they weigh around 35 metric tonnes (80000 pounds).

Well no.
It barely scrapes the top 10.
There are 9 other pokemon (10 if you count primal Kyogre) that have more weight than this behemoth of a whale.
Weighing in at just 398kg (877.4lbs), Wailord is impossibly light.
But just how light is it? Could it even swim?

Warning, Science and Math ahead

Now, we have enough information to estimate the volume of a Wailord. We know it's mass and it's length and can estimate other dimensions from these measurements.

Now, pokemon only gives us one dimension of length in the pokedex, labelled height. Now I'm going to assume that this refers to the longest length of Wailord, giving it the specs of a whale which it is based off. Therefore, the length from nose to tail is 14.5m.

Now, from comparative measurements from pictures, I found a ratio of about 2.54 from height to length, giving it's other dimension as 5.71m

We can estimate Wailord as an ellipsoid (a 3D oval, pill, blimp shape), we can estimate it's volume to be about 247.54 cubic metres. [V=(4/3)(pi)abc].

Density = mass/volume, therefore we can calculate that density = 398/247.54
density = 1.61kg/cubic metre.

Now, for an object to float or sink in water, it's density must be less than or greater than the density of water respectively.
So if we have lead which is far more dense than water, it will sink, while a filled balloon which has less density that water will actively float and may be difficult to submerge.
The density of water at 20°C is 998.21 kg/m3. Which means, not only will Wailord float, it is almost impossible to submerge.

For that matter, lets check in on the density of air.
Air has a density of around 1.207kg/m3 at 20°C, which means our Wailord will almost float in air. However, consider that we have made a pessimistic estimation of Wailord's volume. Wailord is not an ellipsoid but is more like a cylinder with rounded ends.

If, instead we use the same dimensions but use a cylinder as the base shape (giving us an overestimated optimistic volume). We get Wailord's volume to come out as 371.3m3 and therefore his density as 1.07kg/m3. Therefore, Wailord's real density lies somewhere between these numbers and quite potentially, Wailord may be less dense than air.

I guess that's what you get from the float whale pokemon!

Now, lets quickly assume that height is the other dimension and therefore Wailord is 36.83m long making it larger than a blue whale. It's ellipsoid density is 0.0982 and it's cylinder density is 0.0654.
To put that in perspective, the least dense thing on our planet is hydrogen gas and that has a density of 0.082 meaning that Wailord could very well be less dense than hydrogen, and definitely less dense than air.

Our good friend Smealum has kindly released a few more images, for starters there are two more Vivillon forms for you to collect, including an awesome pokeball design.

On top of that, Az' Floette looks like it will be making an ingame appearance as an event distributed pokemon. It will likely have the attack "Light of Ruin" that others have discovered through metronome.

The pokemon leaked on serebii the other week have been confirmed by in game footage, some clever guys out there have managed to alter RAM values in the 3DS allowing these to appear in game. The 3DS has not been hacked yet however and we don't know if there ar any more gems like this to be discovered.

New Eeveelution Ninfia is Light type?

Corocoro magazine scans have revealed a new pokemon Ninfia and already there is massive speculation of a new type being introduced. The fact that Ninfia's typing is being kept a secret as well as Xerneas' and Yveltal's types lead people to think that Ninfia may be a new type. The exclusive full scans can be found below.

Naturally, the first thing that would be released about an eeveelution would be it's typing, and usually it is visible in the pokemon. At the moment, Ninfia's typing is secret and it looks as though it will be a normal type (lots of pinks and whites resembling skitty, audino etc.) or flying type (Large ears and streamers plus those strange sky blue eyes). It seems most likely to be normal type but if so, there is no point in keeping it secret.

Could Xerneas be a light type to counter Yveltal's dark typing and Ninfia being the face of this new type?
Can the type we have wanted since gen 2 be implemented in this new gen?
Only time can tell.

POKEMON X AND Y ANNOUNCED!!!!!

Finally, we have been waiting years upon years but we are finally out of the pixel art with the introduction of generation VI pokemon. Without further ado, I present Pokemon X and Y:


So, to start with, we have the cool 3D graphics and gameplay. This is about as big a step forward as ruby and sapphire were for gold and silver (although, I'm assuming we can trade between gen V and VI).
The graphics do look somewhat different, but this is not a bad thing, finally we have proper 3D battles like we saw on Pokemon stadium on the N64 13 years ago.

Next of course, we have the starters of gen VI themselves.
There has already been some far out speculation, which doesn't entirely sound all that bad. We all know of the usual typing of grass, fire, water; how one beats one and is weak to one. Well, there is another three types that exhibit similar traits. Fighting, dark and psychic form another loop where fighting beats dark, dark beats psychic and psychic beats fighting. The only difference in this is that dark is immune to psychic, not just super effective.
Due to the second attacks each starter show in the video, people have claimed that they exhibit the second type of one o the three:
Chespin appears to be Grass/Dark as it's second attack shows it using a night slash like move.
Fennekin appears to be Fire/Psychic as it's second attack shows a move similar to confusion.
Froakie appears to be Water/Fighting as its second attack appears to be close combat.

Of course, these are first impression speculations and will most likely not be true.


Lastly we need to have a look at the legendary pokemon shown, Xerneas the X shaped elk badass and Yveltal the Y shaped bird demon phoenix thing.

How cool do they look? Xerneas looks like some badass world saving elk embodiment of nature and Yveltal looks like he doesnt care what he does, nobody can stop him, they just watch as he destroys your family and everyone you love.






Alright, there we have it, now go out and buy a 3DS and sit patiently until October when they get released worldwide.

Hoenn Confirmed?

Well with the release of a few new Black and White 2 images, including the map, the internet has started talking and they believe there is going to be a Hoenn in the new games.

First, lets have a look at the map differences revealed so far.

So far, apart from the bottom left, it doesn't look like there are any major changes to the map, of course, most of the map has been covered in ice to hide the new things Nintendo doesn't want you to see, much the same way they used clouds on other maps to hide areas.

One of the speculations is about the ice itself, it seems to cover the edges of the map. Some people are saying that the ice is covering some of the transition areas between this region and the next.

So far there has been the release that the regional dex will have 300 pokemon, the most of any regional dex to date. I think this helps the speculation. I think that 300 pokemon in one region does sound a little compressed and one way they could spread out the species would be to expand the playable area, ie. Hoenn.

One thing to remember in this is that the gen 3 games (R/S/E) occurred in the same timeline as the gen 1 games, then several years later we have gen 2 and gen 4 occurring side by side and then finally we have the first two gen 5 games several years after that. The new games are set to take place a few years after the prequels, therefore, there is a massive time gap since we last saw Hoenn. Can you imagine going back after all this time, the changes that would have happened would be massive.

It looks like that is a new airport on the mountain at the right of the new map. But why else is it there? Why do we need a plane to where we can fly to? Speculation says it will take us to Hoenn (much like the magnet train took us between Kanto and Johto.), which by now may have an airport of it's own. Although, I'm thinking it's more likely that this will take us to the battle frontier or some small island rather than a region.

The History of the Pokemon Universe

This is the complete history of the Pokemon universe to the best of my knowledge and as professional as I can write it.

• In the beginning, before the Earth, before the Milky Way Galaxy, even before the universe was nothing, nothing but a churning turmoil of chaos.
• At the heart of chaos, where all things became one, there appeared an egg.
• From the egg, Arceus, the original one, hatched.
• Arceus then created Dialga, Palkia and Giratina and from them, the universe was created.
• From Palkia, space began to expand.
• From Dialga, time began to spin.
• From Giratina, antimatter was created. 
 

•  Giratina, Dialga and Palkia created a very basic Earth, uninhabited but with oceans, magma and a basic atmosphere which Giratina then began to destroy.
• Giratina's destructive nature caused Arceus to banish him into an alternate universe (the distortion world) while Dialga and Palkia returned to their own dimensions.
•  Arceus then created the lake trio, Uxie to give knowledge, Mesprit to give emotion and Azelf to give willpower, thus creating the basis of spirits to all pokemon.
• From the pressure's at the oceans depths, Kyogre and Manaphy is formed and they start to fill up the oceans.
•  The pressure within the Earth's magma and hardened earth forms Groudon, while Heatran is formed in the magma and Regigigas is formed by the earth, dirt and trees.
• Rayquaza is then created from the minerals in the atmosphere and begins to create the ozone layer, Groudon begin filling up the land masses (Heatran helps shape the new land) while Kyogre fills up the oceans.
• A chance meeting catches Kyogre and Groudon off guard and they begin a climactic battle, accidentally shaping the world as they go, creating mountains and trenches. 
• Rayquaza steps in and stops the battle, banishing the two deep within the Earth and sealing them with the red and blue orbs.
• Mew is created by the lake trio and is the first pokemon to have Uxie's intelligence, Mesprit's emotions and Azelf's willpower. It becomes the ancestor to all modern pokemon.
•  Cresselia and Darkrai are created to allow pokemon to dream, as Uxie, Mesprit and Azelf could not.

• Regigigas tows the continents into place with ropes and the land is fully formed.
•  Mew become populous on the land as the first real inhabitant of the lands and from it, some sub-species begin to split. Genesect populations thrive and 'Fossil pokemon' appear and rule the lands while Mew populations slowly begin to recede.
•  The single dragon that would become Zekrom and Reshiram is created at this point and is one of the most powerful beings alive.
•  Humans begin to populate the land and hunt fossil pokemon
•  During the stone age, Regigigas creates Regirock from various rocks from different locations.
• The ice age occurs and mammalian pokemon such as Mammoswine begin to prosper wiping out the remaining 'fossil pokemon'.
• During the ice age, Regigigas decides to create Regice in it's image from nevermeltice.
•  Due to human populations hunting Mamoswine, the Mamoswine  populations to start decreasing.
• Unknown come from another dimension and appear in several caves, from them came basic written language.
•  Bronzong and Bronzor come into existance on our world after a Bronzong created a portal into this dimension.
• Over time Magikarp populations gradually become weaker
•  The iron age starts and Regigigas forms Registeel from magma which hardens into steel, the people are terrified at Regigigas' power so they trap him away in Snowpoint temple and take the Regi's to Hoenn.
•  The single dragon, accompanied by two human brothers founded the region of Unova, due to the brothers fighting, the single dragon split, Zekrom and Reshiram are seperated from it and the body becomes Kyurem.
•  Meloetta brings music to the lands until darker times occur, at which point it's song changes and it loses it's melody.
•  As people start mistreating pokemon, Cobalion, Terrakion and Virizion begin attacking medieval castles until the forest is set on fire, at which point, Keldeo saves the trio.
• Tornadus and Thunderus begin feuding and a massive storm starts, at the same time Zapdos, Moltres and Articuno begin feuding.
•   Lugia comes out of the depths and stops the birds from fighting, the birds retreat to Kanto.
•  Lugia takes it's perch alongside Ho-oh at the Ecruteak towers
•  Landorus stops the fighting between Tornadus and Thunderus and has a shrine built in it's honour by the people.
• Spiritomb is formed from the spirits of pokemon and is sealed in the Hallowed Tower for it's misdeeds.
•  Brass Tower burns to the ground after lightning strikes it, killing the 3 pokemon that were allowed to live there. Ho-oh resurects the 3 beasts and flies off, Lugia flees to the Whirlpool Islands.

•  Celebi time travels from the future into this more peaceful time, it guards Ilex Forest.
• Elgyem is first discovered in the desert after a meteorite crash.
•  Clefairy appear in mount moon after a meteorite crash, the population begins spreading.
•  A laser hits a meteorite and an alien virus mutates into Deoxys, which later crashes onto Earth
• Victini is hidden away on Liberty Island due to its unnaturally high power.
• One of the few remaining Mews are captured in South America.
• Mewtwo is created as a clone of the captured Mew, it destroys the laboratory and escapes to Cerulean Cave.
• Team Plasma revive a Genosect and outfit it with technologically advanced weapons.
